The X-Files: One Fan's Perspective
A Fan
I first started watching the X-Files during the second or third season, I'm not sure. I got sucked in with the story lines about these FBI agents, Mulder & Scully, investigating cases that are completely out there. It was something new, some interesting. The characters are rather odd and quirky. Mulder, with his obsessive quest for the truth; Scully, who is never convinced even though week after week she sees some really freaky shit (What is that? It kind of drives me nuts at times, but I guess she has to be like that to make it all work). It came at a time when I was tired of all the same sort of stuff (ER, Mad About You, Frazier, etc.). I guess one of the reasons I like about the X-Files is that the stories are interesting enough and it is a healthy mix of sci-fi (I grew up watching the old Star Trek series - Spock was cool) and distortion of reality. And I guess I wasn't the only one watching. The show was doing so well, they made a movie.
There was a lot of hype during the months before the release of the movie. In fact, a little too much. Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie. Lots of special effects, cool alien story and the long awaited, almost romantic moment between Mulder & Scully.
