The March - Intro
SabrinaX
So there we were walking further and further away from our property. I know now that none of us understood what we were doing or why we were doing it, but we marched 5 miles per hour, hour after hour until my stomach cramped from the exertion. We never had to speak, we knew where to go instinctively the way birds know where to fly when the weather changes. We moved steadily forward guided by some preternatural rhythms collectively inside us. Although we had no control over the force that pushed us forward, we were still in control of our motor skills and senses - Jack would wipe the sweat from his brow every so often and Arnold unconsciously whistled on and off. It's strange when I look back on it now that even as we ventured deeper into the unexplored areas I felt no fear, no apprehension at all. I experienced none of the foreboding or foreshadowing often related in cases such as this, my mind was clear and I was focused - focused on moving forward.
As the sun began to set Jack tripped over a root and hit the ground face first and hard. Mark and Arnold walked right past Jack, I stopped to help Jack to his feet. "Hey, wait up" I yelled and they stopped and turned toward us but I could tell they were aggravated with being held up. I asked Jack if he was okay -
"yea, tweaked my ankle a little but I can keep up" Jack said. "Well come the fuck on if your coming" Mark yelled back at us and we hurried to catch up. We walked on, long into the night until we were all near complete muscle fatigue. We all seem to know it was time to stop and we staked out a make shift camp. Very little was said - food was brought up, but none of us had brought anything. We knew the Tebluka River was near so fish may be an option one daylight broke. We made a fire and laid down to sleep around it: one to the East, one to the North, one to the South, and one to the West
That night I dreamed more vividly and forcefully than I ever had before or have since. I dreamed of war and destruction, and love and seduction somewhere during the night I began to dream about a world unlike the world I had grown up in. Where none of the plants were familiar and with a sky with a much greener pigment than my world. I dreamed that I moved across this land without effort, that I was able to manipulate object around me with my thoughts. The dream was so intense that when I awoke to Jack
standing over me it took a few minutes to know which was reality and which fantasy. Some time during the night the fire had gone out and I was shivering. Jack was shaking me - "Adam and Mark are ready to go, get up". I hurried to my feet and gathered up the bag I had brought with me and headed out, moving forward towards the force pulling us towards it.
