It was too cold for seagulls today,
too warm for ducks.
It was too bright for owls this morning,
too friendly for eagles.
Your soft sighs brought the faintest
nips of gales at the sea.
Your warming body,
traced the hesitant afternoon for me.
We smiled, we laughed.
We soaked the sun and drained the earth.
We kissed with no intention of ceasing.
We held with no urgency to leave.
We walked through knee deep rushes,
cattails bending under our stride.
Over and over, we parted them,
again and again.
But,
it is still too cold for seagulls today,
still too warm for ducks.
