Homecoming

Jillian Manning

She came back once again to this place,
But this time she recognized not a single face.
With disbelief, she realized that no one was there,
How could they all just pick up and leave without a care?

Her mind filled with memories real strong,
How could things have gone so wrong?
She had never wanted to leave this town,
And had walked around for months, lonely, lost, and wearing a frown.

She was scared and felt she would never belong there,
But in time met some who did care.
Once again a smile filled her face,
And she was no longer so frightened of this new place.

But then she felt loneliness filling her once more,
Taking a strong hold right to her very core.
And so she went back to the old place, only to find,
That they had all gone, leaving her behind.

Her eyes filled with tears, but she held her head high,
She was a strong woman now, who refused to cry.
She gathered her things and took leave of this place,
Never looking back, and never leaving a trace.

She always thought it would never end,
But one never knows what lies around the bend.
For eventually the time will come to move on,
And those you thought would always be there will be forever gone.
